I grew up sharing an Advent calendar with my two younger sisters, a decoration that was always one of the first out of storage. Pulling little ornaments out of the 24 numbered pockets was one of our favorite traditions and every year there were careful negotiations about the order of turns. everyone trying to be the lucky girl who got to find the tree-topper star (always in the pocket marked “24”). Our mother had the delicate job of making sure we all had a chance in three-year cycles. It was serious Advent business!
Years later, when I began dating the man who became my husband, I was excited to learn that his family, too, had a cherished Advent tradition. Using a beautiful four-armed wooden candle holder crafted by their father, he and his siblings lit candles on each of the four Sundays leading up to Christmas.
Because these traditions complemented each other so beautifully, we’ve carried them forward as we’ve raised own family. Our children, too, have an Advent calendar which is slowly decorated over the days of the Christmas countdown and they, too, light Sunday candles through the season.
Over time our passion for the Advent season has expanded to include travel, hospitality, literature, and more.
The result is Heirloom Advent. We’re glad you’re here!
